Tonight Shannon came into the living room when her dad and I were watching an old TV show from the 70s.

Shan: “What’s that show?”

Me: “Kojak.”

Shan: “Wasn’t Kojak the evil dog?”

Me: “That was Cujo.”

Shan: “Ohhh…”

My daughter and I are opposite in almost every way when it comes to personality.

She is assertive; I am a wimp. She is strong-willed; I tend to cave. She will stand up for herself; I just want peace.

And so it goes. But somehow we get along, because in spite of the generation gap, we both like a lot of the same things.

Such as –

The important stuff: God, family, friends, heroes, loved ones who are now angels in heaven.

Hobbies: writing (she is at least 1000 times better at it than me); “treasure hunting” for bargains.

Food: Chinese buffet, Mickey D’s caramel frappes, burgers from Cook-Out.

TV Shows: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Supernatural, Warehouse 13, Psych.

Movies: The Princess Bride, all of the Harry Potter flicks, all of the Pixar movies, almost anything with Sandra Bullock.

Music: Evanescence, Todd Agnew, Nichole Nordeman, Sarah McLachlan, classic rock.

Books: the Harry Potter series, Dean Koontz and James Patterson novels.

We also heartily dislike some of the same things: anything regarding Twilight, overpriced name brand products, two-faced people.

I am sure that this list will change frequently as the years go by, but for now…
